Schools closed on September 1 as all staff engage in health and safety training

Rainbow Schools in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin Island will be closed on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 as all staff engage in a full day of health and safety training.
Please note that this notice does not affect childcare in Rainbow Schools.
Rainbow District School Board is implementing a number of protocols in response to COVID-19. The protocols are outlined in the Reopening Guide for Rainbow Schools which can be accessed online at rainbowschools.ca.
“The health, safety and well-being of students and staff remains the top priority as Rainbow District School Board prepares to welcome students back to class for the 2020-2021 school year,” said Director of Education Norm Blaseg.
Professional learning and training will focus on daily self-screening for symptoms, monitoring and responding to reports of COVID-19 symptoms, classroom set up, use of masks, hand hygiene, cough/sneeze etiquette, physical distancing, entry and exit, and all protocols pertaining to health and safety.
This is the first of three professional activity days for Rainbow Schools in preparation for the start of school.
On Wednesday, September 2, 2020, staff will focus on mental health, anti-racism and remote learning. The mental health component will have a strong emphasis on building social-emotional learning skills for students to become resilient, manage stress and nurture positive relationships.
The new math curriculum in elementary schools and the online platform for the delivery of courses in secondary schools will be the topic of professional learning on Thursday, September 3, 2020.
Rainbow District School Board reminds parents/guardians and students that school begins with staggered starts the week of Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
