Explore Social Science & Indigenous Studies at Lasalle!

The Social Science Department at Lasalle encourages students to become self-motivated problem-solvers equipped with the skills and knowledge that will allow them to face their changing world with confidence.

Canadian and World Studies

Canadian and World Studies encompasses areas such as geography, history, law, and politics. In studying these subjects, students learn how people interact with and within their social and physical environments today, and how they did so in the past. Through engaging lesson planning and classroom activities, students develop the knowledge and values they need to become responsible, active, and informed Canadian citizens in the twenty-first century.

Social Sciences and Humanities

Social Sciences and Humanities courses focus on the contributions made by anthropology, psychology, and sociology to our understanding of human behaviour. Students are given the opportunity to explore how social, historical and technological changes have shaped the attitudes, beliefs and norms in our contemporary society. Students also gain an understanding of social science methodologies by investigating current social issues and trends that are meaningful and relevant to their own lives.

Family Studies

Family Studies courses focus on improving the quality of life of individuals and families. Areas of study include individual and family development, relationships, parenting, and food and nutrition. Whether in the food lab or caring for an infant simulator, Family Studies courses encourage students to develop their critical and creative thinking skills as well as to gain practical hands-on experiences needed for daily life.
