At Lasalle Secondary School, we believe the purpose of education is to empower every learner to reach their full potential by supporting their intellectual, physical, emotional, social, cultural, and moral growth and development.

At Lasalle Secondary School, we strive to provide students with meaningful and diverse learning opportunities within a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment. Through a wide range of courses, co-curricular activities, athletics, and social and cultural experiences, students are encouraged to explore their interests, develop their strengths, and become active members of their school community.

We also believe strongly in the importance of citizenship, community involvement, and giving back to others. Our longstanding partnership with Finlandia Village provides students with meaningful opportunities to connect learning with community service. Through academic programming, cooperative education experiences, and fundraising initiatives, our students build relationships with seniors while contributing to their health and wellness. These experiences help foster empathy, responsibility, leadership, and a strong sense of community.

At Lasalle Secondary School, we believe that students who are actively involved in school life have richer and more meaningful educational experiences. Participation helps students build a stronger sense of belonging, develop positive relationships, and feel more connected to their school and community.

Beyond academics, involvement provides students with opportunities to develop the transferable skills that are highly valued by employers and essential for future success. Through athletics, clubs, leadership opportunities, the arts, and community initiatives, students strengthen their communication, collaboration, time management, problem-solving, and leadership skills. Most importantly, these experiences help students discover their strengths, better understand themselves and others, and develop the confidence and skills needed to contribute positively to their communities and the world around them.

Arts-based technological courses have experienced tremendous growth and interest at Lasalle Secondary School. Students have access to modern learning spaces and industry-relevant technology that allow them to explore their creativity while developing valuable technical and transferable skills.

Our, animation, digital photography, and film labs provide students with opportunities to bring their ideas to life. High-performance computers and professional-level film editing technology support hands-on experiences in areas such as digital media, photography, animation, video production, graphic design, and multimedia storytelling.

These courses encourage students to think creatively, collaborate with others, solve problems, and develop confidence in using emerging technologies. Students have opportunities to move from concept and design to production and presentation, creating authentic projects that showcase both their artistic vision and technical abilities.

By combining creativity with technology, Lasalle provides students with relevant learning experiences that can help prepare them for post-secondary programs, apprenticeships, and careers in the rapidly evolving creative, media, communications, and technology sectors.

Lasalle Secondary School is proud of its vibrant Music, Arts, and Drama programs, which provide students with opportunities to discover their talents, express their creativity, and develop confidence both in and beyond the classroom. Students can participate in a variety of bands, ensembles, performances, productions, and creative experiences that contribute to the rich culture of our school.

Our talented musicians and ensembles have a strong tradition of excellence, consistently earning gold and silver recognition at local and provincial music festivals and competitions. Through rehearsals, performances, festivals, and collaborative projects, students develop not only their artistic abilities but also important skills in teamwork, communication, perseverance, discipline, and leadership.

Whether performing on stage, creating visual art, playing in an ensemble, or working behind the scenes, students are encouraged to find their place, take creative risks, and contribute their talents to our school community. The Arts are an important part of the Lancer experience and a source of tremendous pride at Lasalle.

Lasalle Secondary School offers a comprehensive mathematics program designed to engage students in meaningful problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration. Incorporating elements of the Building Thinking Classrooms approach, students are encouraged to actively explore mathematical concepts, share their thinking, and work together using vertical learning spaces.

With nearly every secondary mathematics course offered in Ontario, including Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus, students have access to a wide range of pathways that support their individual goals and future aspirations. Our dedicated mathematics educators are committed to creating supportive and engaging learning environments where students are challenged, encouraged, and empowered to reach their full potential.

.Our poets and literary scholars speak well for our English department. Our French Immersion and modern languages students enjoy many cultural experiences from the community and participate in field trips which add to their appreciation and understanding of diverse ethnicities. European trips are planned every few years for the students and these are opportunities for them to express themselves in Spanish and French.

The Science and Social Sciences departments allow for students to learn in immersive classrooms, participating in field trips, food labs, science labs, dissections, parenting labs, mock trials and more. Students are encouraged to pursue their interests in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Geography, Law, Sociology/Anthropology/Psychology, Food Sciences, Parenting and World Issues. As Lasalle is one of the largest schools in Sudbury, we are able to offer more diversity and pathway choices with our course selections. Advanced Placement courses are offered in Biology and Psychology for university-bound students.

Lasalle Secondary School offers a diverse Health and Physical Education program that encourages students to develop healthy, active lifestyles while building confidence, teamwork, leadership, and personal well-being. In addition to a wide range of physical education courses, students can explore specialized opportunities in areas such as yoga, volleyball, basketball, soccer, fitness, and outdoor education. Through these experiences, students develop lifelong skills while discovering activities and interests that support their physical and mental well-being.

Our Technological Education program is truly second to none, providing students with extensive hands-on learning experiences in modern, well-equipped learning environments. Students can develop practical skills and gain exposure to industry-standard tools, equipment, and practices through courses in woodworking, electrical, technological design and drafting, welding, machining, automotive technology, and millwright programming.

These programs allow students to learn by doing, solve authentic problems, work collaboratively, and develop skills that connect directly to the world beyond the classroom. Through experiential learning, students can explore potential career pathways, develop valuable employability skills, and build a strong foundation for apprenticeships, college, university, and the workplace. Our broad range of programming ensures that students have opportunities to discover their strengths, pursue their interests, and begin building pathways toward successful futures.

We are proud to commit to Truth and Reconciliation. At Lasalle Secondary we offer large and diverse class options in indigenous studies. Ojibway classes are very popular at the school. Our Graduation Coach supports students in Grade 12 to ensure they are ready for success at graduation. Our school also offers a full-year Niigaansiiwin program where students work with one teacher for three periods per day. There is also a focus on Indigenous culture and outdoor education.

The Co-Operative Education and Apprenticeship Education (OYAP) programs are growing at a tremendous rate due to the high level of commitment from staff and with the generous support of our community members.

Lasalle Secondary School’s special education program provides instruction and support to students who have identified learning difficulties and special learning needs in a classroom environment which allows for more individualized instruction. The Resource Department is well-equipped with computers and specialized software to assist in supporting those students with reading and writing difficulties.

Lasalle Secondary School’s special education program provides instruction and support to students who have been identified through the Identification Placement and Review Committee process. The special education department can provide a more individualized experience for those learners requiring assistance with their learning. Students can go to the Resource Room to access accommodations throughout the school day.

The Students Services department is open to all students seeking assistance in the areas of educational, career, and personal counseling. Advice and information are available to students and to parents regarding the courses best suited to the needs, interests, abilities, and career goals of each student. A full-time social worker compliments the work of our guidance department, providing the professional experience to work with students seeking mental health support.

Specialist High Skills Majors

Lasalle Secondary School is proud to offer one of the highest offerings of Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) in our community: Non-Profit (LEAD), Energy, Construction, and Millwright. These certificate programs are a Ministry-approved specialized program designed to allow students to focus on knowledge and skills in a specific industrial sector. Students can obtain certifications recognized in this sector as they work towards meeting the requirements for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Students who graduate with a SHSM designation on their diploma are prepared for success in the sectors of business, sports, energy, construction, or transportation. The student experience in these programs prepares them for the post-secondary destination of their choice, whether it be apprenticeship training, a college or university program, or the workplace.

Energy SHSM

The Energy SHSM at Lasalle Secondary provides students with an opportunity to explore the growing and evolving energy sector while gaining valuable knowledge, skills, certifications, and experiences that can support a variety of future pathways. With a focus on Renewable Energy, students explore areas such as solar, wind, energy efficiency, power generation, and the impact of energy use on our society and environment. The program provides students with opportunities to take part in hands-on learning, co-operative education, industry certifications, field trips, career exploration, and experiences with community and postsecondary partners. Students are able to connect their classroom learning to real-world applications while exploring pathways into apprenticeship training, college, university, or the workplace.

Lasalle has a long and proud history with Specialist High Skills Majors. Our Energy SHSM was launched in 2010, at a time when Lasalle was one of only five schools in Ontario offering an Energy SHSM. Over the years, the program has continued to evolve while maintaining its strong focus on hands-on learning, community partnerships, and meaningful experiences in the energy sector. Students have participated in experiences ranging from exploring power generation and energy efficiency to studying solar technology and visiting energy-related facilities and postsecondary institutions.

Sport Health Academics and Leadership Program (SHAL)

Lasalle Secondary School provides a specialized learning opportunity to maximize human potential in sport, fitness, and academics. The Sport Health Academics and Leadership program is offered to all students in the Lasalle Secondary School area and focuses on three strands – Elite Athlete Development, Healthy Active Living, Leadership and Sports Administration.
This program will appeal to strong, academically minded Grade 8 students who have a keen interest in all things related to and around sports. Interested students will benefit if they are athletes, elite athletes, entrepreneurs, or have a keen interest in the fields of sports journalism, and sports medicine. The major focus is on sport, fitness, and healthy active living. The program includes accommodations for elite athletes as well as intensive leadership and skill development.
